The Kit Slide: A Story All It's Own

These have a story, or at least a series of points of inspiration. I can't help but be a child of the 80s. And design and imagination for me comes from a mix of nostalgia and the conceptual. And then that mixed with something I feel I want, something that continues to marinate and be with me.

So... .. these are inspired by Barbie heels, the ones Barbie wears. The ones I had a hundred of. Yes, I was obsessed with clothes at this age, they just weren't mine. And then mix this with those heels that little girls wear, from the 1980s drug store, like princess shoes made of plastic. They are the same. It is a shape thing. I wish they had a better story, but if you think about it, it's so authentic. These were shapes I sat with, kind of pined for as a young young girl. These are strong feelings, they linger.

And then mix that with shoes the women of Three's Company would wear. Standing on one leg with flamingos. This cork was so 70s. As a child (and latch key kid) of the 80s, I saw every episode. I knew every moment.  And when I felt this shape tugging at me, it's truly these reference points I think about.

But it's not these points that started it.. It's these points that are familiar. When I go to Italy, I visit Heel Offices. Rooms of heels, stacked on shelves. Before designing shoes, you would never imagine such a room. And I was drawn to this specific heel. I saved it's photo, for years. It was so outside of what I was starting with, it didn't make sense.. But I was flirting with it. It puts it's hook in me around September 2023. And I have been thinking about it ever since.
