The Cove begins with color.
A color I have been thinking about a long time is Teal. Things are emotional for me. I have been tracing the swatch for a few seasons now, before really knowing it will be ok. It's ok to do a teal shoe, I would tell myself. Now that we are here, it's a "thank goodness" I did that because I am living for the day we launch this shoe. Because Teal is everything. And we are here.

I'm going to be straight about this. I love teal for it's magical moodiness, yes. But the real reason I love Teal pointed ballet flats goes all the way back to 1988. I was in the 4th grade and I wore Teal head to toe quite a lot. I wore a teal top and pants but also Teal pointy flats. I have a vivid memory of being in my backyard as a kid, in this Teal outfit, playing tetherball alone and singing Grease songs. Why does that stick. 37 years later.. I can see it all very clearly, that moment. Why? Maybe it's because of this moment. This flipside opposite quantum string to here. I felt like in that tetherball court alone, I might have been making plans, the beginnings of this manifestation...
And so... I love Teal pointed flats.... deeply and truly.

Also, we designed it all so beautifully, this bounce of color between pieces. I wanted it to be about a quadrant of bouncing greens, pistachio, ochre, olive, sage, teal, deep green. The teal was the pop and it so perfectly does.

And as much as love Teal pointed flat, I love a perfect Taupe flat more. Because as deeply as that is ingrained in some part of me, the forever hunt for "Jean Wilder's chopped off heel becomes a taupe flat" haunts my fashion brain. After they slid down the mud, Michael Douglas used his machete to chop her trap heels into muddy Taupe flats. I fell in love. With 80s writer style, with Micheal Douglas, with dirty flats. With nude flats. Forever, from Romancing the Stone.
These are true. points. of. inspiration. These references live inside.. They aren't external. They come from these moments in life that linger.

About the Cove slipper... what can I tell you. Beautiful. Soft, like you wouldn't believe. Bendy and flexible. A rubber sole. True to size. A little light elastic at the heel. Sacchetto construction. As good as it gets. Really, she's very good.
The Cove's are soft hugs in colors straight from the heart.
